Photographed this Black-collared Hawk (Busarellus nigricollis) in the Pantanal, Brazil recently.
It's an attractive chunky hawk of marshes and wetlands. Usually seen perched quietly near water, waiting to swoop down and snatch fish or frogs. Adult is distinctive, with mostly orange plumage and a whitish head (black collar is often hard to see).

On my first day in the Pantanal, Brazil this was the first Jaguar we found. She was just relaxing in a tree and was an awesome sight to see.

Captured this stunning Military Macaw while spendi

Captured this stunning Military Macaw while spending time in Bolivia recently.
A spectacular, huge, and long-tailed parrot, wiped out from most areas by capture for the pet trade. Found very locally in forested foothills, canyons, and adjacent semi-open areas with big trees. Usually in pairs or loose groups made up of pairs. Unmistakable, bright green overall with mostly blue wings from above and golden yellow below, and red-and-blue tail. Calls are deep, throaty roars that carry long distances.
Status: Vulnerable

On an early morning game drive in Madikwe Game Res

On an early morning game drive in Madikwe Game Reserve, I captured this tiny but stunning Southern Cordonbleu (Uraeginthus angolensis). We were staying at Jaci’s Private Lodge while filming for The Great Outdoors TV program on Channel 7 in Australia—episodes should air in November, so keep an eye out!
This delicate waxbill is a real gem of the savanna, with its powder‑blue plumage and soft grey‑brown tones. The males glow with bright blue underparts, while females are paler with a greyish belly. They’re often seen in pairs or small flocks near permanent water, adding a splash of colour to the bush.

Came across a couple of Spotted Hyena resting earl

Came across a couple of Spotted Hyena resting early in the morning after what must have been a long night of hunting. Watching them sprawled out in the soft light was a beautiful reminder that even Africa’s most formidable predators need their downtime. Moments like these show the quieter side of the bush, where survival and serenity meet.

Captured this Red-crested Bustard (Lophotis ruficr

Captured this Red-crested Bustard (Lophotis ruficrista), also known locally as the Red-crested Korhaan, singing during an early morning game drive. Its call is something else—starting with rhythmic clicks before accelerating into a piercing whistle or even a frog‑like croak. Truly bizarre, yet amazing to witness!
This unforgettable moment unfolded while we were staying at Jaci’s Private Lodge in the Madikwe Game Reserve, South Africa filming for Channel 7's Great Outdoors in Australia.
